A New Hampshire couple suspected of abusing the woman's 3-year-old son have been arrested while leaving a parade at a theme park in Orlando, Fla., after two weeks on the run, authorities say.

Jessica Linscott and her boyfriend, Roland Dow, were taken into custody on Wednesday evening at Universal Studios, where they had been watching the parade, U.S. marshals said.

Linscott, 23, and Dow, 27, were wanted in connection with injuries to Linscott's son, including burns and significant head injuries.

Police had received a call two weeks ago from Exeter Hospital, in Exeter, N.H., where the boy was being treated. The boy later was taken to Children's Hospital at Dartmouth in Lebanon, N.H., where he was recovering after surgery.

Tips helped to track down the couple, Rockingham County Attorney Jim Reams said.

"We were feeling pretty confident 24 hours ago that we were going to have them soon," Reams said Wednesday.

Law enforcement officials spent "countless hours" trying to find Linscott and Dow, who are from Plaistow, N.H., a town of about 8,000 residents in Rockingham County, marshals said.

Marshals looked for the couple all day Wednesday and at the end of the day found them while a crowd was breaking up after the parade and they were headed back to the theme park's attractions area, said David Charles, deputy criminal investigator for the U.S. Marshals Service in Orlando.

"They were totally surprised," he said. "They had no clue."

U.S. Marshal David L. Cargill Jr., who thanked the public for providing tips during the search for the couple, said he found it "very sad" that they were found in an area "designed to bring joy and happiness to children."

Linscott is accused of failing to get medical attention for her son when he was suffering seizures from a head injury and of failing to protect him from harm. She's charged with multiple counts of child endangerment.

Dow is charged with assault.

Linscott and Dow were jailed on Wednesday and couldn't be reached for comment by telephone. They were scheduled to be arraigned in Florida on Thursday on fugitive from justice charges.

NSAID use linked to reduced hepatocellular carcinoma risk and mortality due to chronic liver disease

ScienceDaily (Nov. 28, 2012) ? Researchers found that aspirin use is associated with a decreased risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma and death from chronic liver disease (CLD), according to a study published November 28 in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the most common type of primary liver cancer, occurs mainly among patients with CLD. Previous reports have linked chronic inflammation due to CLD to cellular processes that could promote carcinogenesis. Because of their anti-inflammatory properties and widespread use to prevent cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) including aspirin and nonaspirin NSAIDs are being investigated as cancer chemopreventive agents. NSAIDs have been shown to have a beneficial effect in observational studies and clinical trials on risk of some cancers. However, the relationship between NSAID use and risk of HCC and death from CLD is unclear.

To investigate this relationship, Vikrant V. Sahasrabuddhe, M.B.B.S., Dr.P.H, from the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics at the National Cancer Institute, and colleagues, performed an observational study of 300,504 men and women aged 50 to 71 years enrolled in the National Institutes of Health-AARP Diet and Health Study who reported their aspirin and nonaspirin NSAID use and were followed-up for 10-12 years. The researchers linked the self-reported use of aspirin and nonaspirin NSAIDs to registry data on diagnoses of 250 cases of HCC and 428 deaths due to CLD to perform their study.

The researchers found that the use of NSAIDs was associated with a reduced risk of HCC and a reduced risk of death from CLD compared to non-users. Study participants who used aspirin had a 41% reduced risk of HCC and a 45% reduced risk of death from CLD, whereas those who used non-aspirin NSAIDs experienced a 26% reduced risk of CLD mortality but no reduced risk of HCC. The authors conclude that "these associations are prominent with the use of aspirin, and if confirmed, might open new vistas for chemoprevention of HCC and CLD."

In an accompanying editorial, Isra G. Levy, M.B., BCh., MSc., and Carolyn P. Pim, M.D., both from the Department of Epidemiology and Community Medicine at the University of Ottawa in Canada discuss how the known causes of chronic liver disease and primary liver cancer are hepatitis B and C virus infections, alcohol use, and a link between obesity and diabetes has been suggested. "We already have cheap, readily available interventions," such as vaccines for hepatitis B and C virus but "effective strategies for reduction of HBV and HCV are not always available or fully applied." Also, alcohol abuse and obesity are complex and multifactorial challenges that require interventions at the individual and system levels." They conclude that although we should study the potential of new chemopreventive strategies such as NSAID use, we should also continue to focus on improving the established practices and interventions.

Guest Post ? Rob James, Does Obesity Prevent Productive Thought ...

waistsmallObesity is a serious problem within the UK, with the BBC estimating that about 60.8 per cent of the adult population, and 31.1 per cent of children, suffering from some form of obesity. Reasons for the obesity epidemic can be found in poor diet, too much fast food, and a lack of exercise. Obesity can lead to serious health problems, from heart disease to diabetes and high blood pressure, as well as to increased stress levels. In this context, it?s worth briefly exploring whether obesity prevents productive thought, and how this is a particular problem for education.

Being obese has been identified in studies as contributing to problems with concentration and lower academic achievement. Reviewing a study looking at the relationship between physical activity and academic performance, Byrd has argued that ?students that maintained a higher level of physical activity

Being obese has been identified in studies as contributing to problems with concentration and lower academic achievement.

maintained higher grades and learned at a faster rate than those students who were less physically active?. Other studies have noted that obesity can result in complications within the brain that result in lower maths and spelling scores, as well as issues in terms of processing information, with Rebecca Smith recently highlighting the serious long term problems suffered in schools as the result of obesity.

The impact of early childhood and adolescent obesity can be extended here to how obese adults become less productive in the workplace, whether as the result of poor concentration resulting from appetite and stress, as well as through obesity-related health problems that lead to time off. A recent survey by the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research presented evidence for cognitive impairment for obesity in a sample of 6,400 people aged 35 to 50. Looking at these results, blogger Arkar from Allvoices identified how obese adults experience ?22.5 percent more rapid decrease in cognition and memory than others? considered to be a healthy weight.

boytouchingtoesWhat, then, are some solutions that can be attempted for reducing obesity in schools and young people, in order to lower the chances of future problems? Among the clearest solutions is the need for better education within schools about nutrition, as well as more programs dedicated to physical exercise and fitness within schools. Healthy eating schemes, and improving school meals, are also vital to ensuring that children do not get into bad habits in school. However, schools can arguably only go so far in providing the right kind of advice on diet and exercise ? this has to be combined with healthy eating at home, and parental encouragement of exercise.

Powerball fever spikes as jackpot hits $500 million

Although the odds are merely one in 175 million, it hasn't stopped people from spending $2 a ticket to take their chances on what has become the largest jackpot in Powerball history. NBC's John Yang reports.

By Becky Bratu, NBC News

NEW YORK -- The steady stream of commuters, transit workers, and veteran gamblers who stopped by a Grand Central Terminal kiosk Tuesday had one thought in common: To win the estimated $500 million Powerball jackpot, the largest in the game's history.

It's a scene being repeated across the 42 states, plus Washington, D.C., and the Virgin Islands,?where Powerball is played.

For Keith "Stix" Lexa, the dream is buying a farm. Lexa, who lives in Queens, N.Y., and works at Grand Central as a Metro-North Railroad mechanic, is a self-proclaimed "big gambler" who plays the lottery regularly.?

"I would buy a farm, a bunch of horses," Lexa said. "I've always loved animals." For good measure, he said, he'd also invest in Budweiser.

Overhearing him, Tony, Lexa's friend and co-worker, said he'd buy the farm next door so he could drop by and bug him.

At the Hudson News kiosk where Lexa bought his tickets, more than $1,600 had been spent on Powerball tickets between 7 and 9 a.m. That kind of activity, repeated at store after store across the country, helped drive the estimated jackpot from?$425 million to $500 million for Wednesday night's drawing.

As big as this week's Powerball jackpot is, it's not the largest lottery prize ever. That mark is held by the $656 million Mega Millions jackpot that was split by three ticket buyers earlier this year.?The biggest Powerball prize was $365 million in 2006, shared by several ConAgra Foods Workers in Lincoln, Neb.

Jonathan Sanger / NBC News

Keith "Stix" Lexa and Tony joke about what they would buy if they won the $425 million Powerball jackpot at a Hudson News store in Grand Central Station in New York City on Nov. 27.

Chuck Strutt, executive director of Multi-State Lottery Association, the group that runs Powerball, told The Associated Press there's a 60 percent chance the prize will be won Wednesday. Strutt added the odds of someone taking home the prize can improve if there's a large number of last-minute ticket purchasers picking unique numbers.

Jonathan Sanger / NBC News

Eusebio Wilson-Pinto writes numbers on his Powerball ticket at a Hudson News store in Grand Central Station in New York City on Nov. 27.

One reason for the big pot is because Powerball tickets doubled in price to reach $2 in January, which led to an increase in revenue of about 35 percent over 2011. Strutt told The AP that sales for Powerball reached a record $3.96 billion in fiscal 2012, which ended in September, and are expected to reach $5 billion this fiscal year.

In interviews Tuesday, the?consensus among both amateur and experienced players at Grand Central was that quitting their job was the first thing they'd do if they won.

Dominic DeCarlo, who was commuting through the station to his job in finance in Manhattan, said he doesn't think about winning too much because he gets discouraged.

"Playing this is against all laws of finance," he said, adding: "I'd probably quit my job, buy a nice house, maybe leave the country."

Eusebio Wilson-Pinto, a tennis instructor who lives in the Bronx and plays every day, said he'd use some of the money to buy the business that employs him and become his boss's boss.

"You got to bribe your boss sometimes," he said.

Teresa White, a mother and a grandmother who lives in Brooklyn and works for MTA Metro-North Railroad, said she'd give half of her prize to a charity that supports education.

Father of four Antonio Macias, 69, who used to work in a Midtown Manhattan jewelry store and said he's been playing the lottery since the late 1970s, would split it among his four sons.

"Happiness is with them," he said.

Badges Beware: 80% Of Gamification Apps Will End Up Being Losers, Says Gartner

icons for four Foursquare badgesAfter hype cometh the fall. Gamification -- the catch-all term for rewards, incentives and loyalty services -- has become a very popular way to get users engaged in an increasingly noisy world of apps and online life. But Gartner says in a new study that many of the apps using the technique are becoming noise in themselves: by 2014, 80% of all gamified apps will fail to do what they've set out to do, the analyst house predicts.

Legal challenge to consolidated college new name narrowed by ...

The lawsuit over the name of the consolidated Augusta State and Georgia Health Sciences universities will become simpler next month.

In response to the University System of Georgia and the Board of Regents? claim of sovereign immunity as a defense to a federal lawsuit, Regent University in Virginia decided to drop part of its legal challenge to the name Georgia Regents University.

Regent had claimed that Georgia was violating its rights under state and federal constitutions, but will drop that claim. The Virginia university isn?t conceding Georgia?s argument, but by narrowing the legal issue, both sides will save time and money.

In an order signed Nov. 20, the federal judge gave Regent University 14 days to amend its lawsuit originally filed in September. Georgia will have the opportunity to respond afterward.

The Virginia school first sent a cease-and-desist letter and then filed suit after the Georgia board decided to named the combined Augusta campuses Georgia Regents University. According to court documents filed this month, the decision to include ?Augusta? as an unofficial part of the name doesn?t settle the complaint for the Virginia university.

Regent University intends to pursue the lawsuit on grounds of trademark infringement and unfair competition. The school has had a trademark on the name since at least 1990.

On Aug. 7, the Georgia Board of Regents voted on the new name for the combined schools in Augusta. The board bypassed the results of a nationwide survey that ranked ?University of Augusta? as the top choice. A community campaign, Save the A, led to a compromise decision to add the city?s name to the school, although it is unofficial.

Allergies linked to lower incidence of brain cancer in the study

T The study does demonstrate a cause and effect, such as allergies directly reduce the risk of brain cancer. Only shows a possible link, what doesn t swing Dr. Eugene S. Flamm, chairman of the department of neurosurgery at Montefiore Medical Center in New YorkIn the study, published Feb. 7 in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, McCarthy and his colleagues reviewed surveys completed by 419 patients with glioma and 612 cancer-free patients in North Carolina and Illinois. All patients were asked if they had physician-diagnosed seasonal allergies, medications, food, pets or others and if they have taken antihistamines.

If you have allergies, courage: Researchers say it may be less likely to develop a hard to treat brain cancer, probably because the immune system is on alert.

SOURCES: Bridget J. McCarthy, Ph., research associate professor of epidemiology, University of Illinois at Chicago, Eugene S. Flamm, MD, Professor Jeffrey P. Bergstein and Director of the Department of Neurosurgery, Montefiore Medical Center in New York, February 2011, Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention

It is not clear how this knowledge can improve the prevention or treatment of brain cancer, but study author said the findings open the way s to new research.

With short rural Australia 17,000 health professionals, we hope that the infrastructure improvements will attract more doctors and nurses in the bush.

You can not tell people to go out and develop allergies. That will not happen. And you can t tell people with allergies who is doing a good thing, and don t try to get rid of them.

Researchers have published conflicting studies that people with allergies and autoimmune diseases have a lower risk of developing cancer, said McCarthy. We wanted to see the range and see if we have found an association with any type of allergy, said McCarthy.

We must do more studies to really what the underlying mechanism. Then we might be able to do things that might influence people who may have a higher risk, or perhaps a family, said Bridget J. McCarthy, a research associate professor of epidemiology at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

The lesions studied are known as gliomas, the most common type of brain tumor in adults. They represent more than half of malignant brain tumors, more than 18,000 diagnosed in the United States each year, according to the National Institute of Cancer.

One of the reasons for the conflicting reports, the authors, is that the allergy has been defined differently in different studies, sometimes a lot, sometimes narrow, as seasonal allergies alone. Further studies are needed, they said.

As the authors point out, there are several conflicting reports in the literature, and this article does not help in any way, Flamm said.

The researchers found that patients with high and low grade tumors are more likely to report than other patients without allergies. And more than anyone had allergies, the probability of gliomas.

Antihistamine use didn t affect the results, according to the authors.

Forex Market Review And News Calendar For November 26 ~ 29 ...

\"ForexAlthough the?week was cut short by the Thanksgiving Holiday with at least 80% of liquidity reduction?by Wednesday,?risk sentiments showed?remarkable improvements as positive developments in Europe, U.S., and the Middle East helped to boost optimism. Market is now pricing in a potential resolution for the fiscal cliff in the U.S, release of the bailout tranche to Greece, and the cease fire agreement between Israel and Hamas to hold?? Towards the end of the week, EURUSD approached the 1.30000 psychological level.

In?Europe, despite of?a sovereign credit downgrade of France, due to?a sustained loss of competitiveness and the failure to tackle structural problems, according to Moody?s, market still remained optimistic for the Euro.? As a matter of fact, French Finance Minister Moscovici claimed that the downgrade?would force leaders to agree to pursue reforms, and that would not necessarily be a bad thing.? Although?the downgrade have already?impacted the rating of the ESM/EFSF bailout facilities, and the EFSF was forced to delay the auction of three-year notes on Tuesday.

In Greece, the negotiations continued on?with final details expected to be negotiated this weekend ahead of another Eurogroup meeting this coming Monday.? This timetable would still allow Greece to receive the anticipated aid tranches in early December.? (Note: Both German and French Finance Ministers commented after the Econfin meeting on the 20th?that a minor technical detail is holding up the negotiation and the tranche of bailout payment should be approved on Monday the 26th.)

In the commodity market,?market focused on the?tension between?Israel?and Hamas as both sides continued launch new offensives.?By mid-week, the new Egyptian President is said to have brokered a cease fire deal?and?energy prices start to drop.? For the week WTI and Brent each finished up more than 1.5%, but well off the Monday highs.

In Japan,?the USD/JPY pair hit fresh 7-month highs?as?a number of factors were responsible for the weaker JPY currency including:?worse than expected Japan merchandise deficit, Japanese LDP opposition election platform, and dealer chatter of M&A flows with rumor that Softbank had started buying USD for acquisition of Sprint with cited.? The JPY was off its worst levels by Friday after LDP opposition leader Abe changed his FX intervention rhetoric that he was not thinking of currency intervention to weaken the JPY currency and wanted the BOJ to address strong yen through monetary policy.

In conclusion, EUR should be a?BUY ON DIPS, especially considering that the market has been very positive for the EURO despite of Moody?s downgrade on France.? As a matter of fact, because of the intentional downplay by the finance ministers last week after the much anticipated Eurogroup meeting on the 20th, I believe there is a very strong possibility that a decision will be reached for Greece on Monday, which means we should see stronger EUR following the decision? EURUSD could retest the 1.3150 level before the end of the week, therefore I recommend to buy on dips.? GBP is also a BUY ON DIPS, with the quarterly Revised GDP scheduled on Tuesday, if we get a even better release, GBP should move up and potentially retest the 1.6300 level by the end of the week.? JPY consolidated a bit on Friday after LDP Abe?s comments on intervention, but JPY should still be a SELL ON RALLY currency, especially when Abe has not changed his stance on depreciating the JPY to inflation.? CAD and AUD should both be?BUY ON DIPS, especially considering that recent IMF report calls for both CAD and AUD as reserve currencies.? CHF should gain following EUR, therefore a BUY ON DIPS; we should see CHF gaining against USD sharply, my view is that we?ll probably see 0.9200 or lower this week.? NZD should be a BUY ON DIPS, considering the risk appetite sentiment that is currently driving the market.? USD is a SELL ON RALLY, considering that there will be plenty of risk appetite events around, USD will probably remain bearish or just neutral.

Here are the tradable releases for the week:
